Heroes of Newerth

So I've been playing the beta for Heroes of Newerth, which isn't really a new game but a mostly straight copy from a Warcraft 3 mod, Defense of the Ancients (DOTA). It's really hard for me to decide if this game is cool or not, because I'm really love/hate with it. Sometimes I really love it and sometimes I really hate it. It's really hard for me to figure out exactly what my problem (sometimes) with it is. Perhaps I should make a list.

1. If the game isn't close to an even match, it's not fun. If I'm dominating it's not much fun, and if I'm getting dominated it's not much fun.
2. Someone could get disconnected from the game and turn a 5v5 into a 4v5, which isn't fun.
3. The game is a bit about the weakest link, as a really bad team member on either side becomes a feeder, because every time a hero gets killed by another hero, the killer gets a lot of experience and money, and the dead hero loses money and has to wait to be resurrected. After this happens a few times, the feeder is so far behind as to never become competetive, and the heroes on the other team farming him get so far ahead that they can quickly be too much for the non-feeders, who are down a player and down levels/items.
4. If your team is bad, they will all pick melee with no type of incapacitating abilities. This is bad because early game melee are terrible at gaining experience (especially in a harass situation) when put in a lane against ranged. If the other team is really good they will last-hit most of your creep, and deny most of their creep. More on this.
5. Last hit / deny system: Basically, you get around 1 gold a second which doesn't add up very quick, and then a gold bonus for every creep or player that you get the killing blow on. You always get experience for a kill you are close to, unless the other team Denies it, which is when they kill their own creep (and last hit it) and deny you experience or money from getting your own last hit. This is just a bit too all or nothing for me.
6. Some mechanics/combos are just really cheesy and difficult to counter. There are channeled single-target disables that can be broken by a team mate, but if not broken they can be easily chained with allies to easily kill you while you are stunned the entire time.
7. Magic immunity and CC are just kind of lame. Either you can't be affected by it, or you can. Magic immunity is godly because CC is godly. If you can't be CC'd, you can kill the other team. Magic immunity Allows you to cast your big attack without being CCd before you do your damage. Magic immunity makes the big magic nuke do nothing to you. To counter CC, you get a shrunken head which has to be pre-cast. To get rid of someone else's magic immunity you buy an item with limited charges or have an electrician on your team.
8. Usually a team will be strong early game with a lot of single-target disables/damages and is very strong at ganking, or else they will have strong AoE for team fights starting at midgame and later. However, sometimes your team is just really bad and picked bad heroes, and you have neither. This brings us back to point 1 and 3, where you see the game going in a bad place from very early on. Unfortunately, you can't leave a game unless you leave before character selection, which can tell you a lot of how the game is likely going to turn out.
9. If I don't win, I don't like it as much.

So..... if the stars align, the game is unbelievably cool and fun. But it's very easy to get an unfun game.

Cool movie

So I watched Prince Caspian. I started googling for other people who thought it sucked, and I found this gem:

(Un?)cool question: Your vampire power

If you were a twilight vampire, what do you think your power would be? If you don't remember, it's usually something drastically heightened that you were already pretty good at. I'm trying to figure out if I would become a supergenius or freeze into ice (since I'm so cool).

Awesome quote of the day

"The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck, is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners ... "

The new star trek is cool. Everyone needs to see it! From the new style weapons to the awesome new cast and awesome new enterprise, this is a must see. There's enough continuity for old trekkies, and it's just so awesome that previous non-trek fans are going to love it.

CPU coolers

So I had a stock CPU cooler and my processor was running at 69 degrees celsius, and I decided that was too hot. So I picked up the biggest Zalman that would fit into my normal sized case. Now my computer runs 15 degrees cooler under a load. There's bigger and better heatsinks out there, but it was hard to find something that would provide a lot of cooling and not need me to buy a new case to fit it in.

Enterprise is awesome

Yeah so I was watching the history channel about WW2 aircraft carriers. The American force was pretty much saved by the Enterprise. At one point it was the only operational carrier for the US, but they kept us in the fight. It had to go in for repairs a few times but learning more about the ships is cool!
