I really liked the Google Chat app for windows. So much that I was annoyed that they didn't make a mac or linux one. It was really lean and just sat in the bottom of my desktop until I needed it. I didn't have to have a stupid browser window open or anything stupid if I wasn't doing something that needed a browser. And if I did want to use a browser, I sure didn't want to have to keep switching back to that tab to reply to be people and/or see who was online etc.
Yeah, I could keep chrome open or something, or do some sort of add-on thing that might make some sort of extra window, but it's still dependent on a browser.
I guess I could install trillian or something, but I haven't done that for 10 years or so. We'll see....
